Social Media will change the world

par Charles Lapointe le 19 juin 2009

As some of you Twitter users might have noticed, the Iran Election contreversy has brought up quite the stir to the social media world, ranging from blogs to Twitter. Google even reports that Twitter has been approached by the US Government to keep the service online (even when they needed to do maintenance) while the Iran protests were taking place so that they could use the service to communicate and coordinate their riots.

This brings us thinking, we are in 2009, we have many nations that still have no freedom of speech, but we all have access to one common resource, the internet.

Social online media has taken a spin with new networks such as Facebook and Twitter rising and since then has reached out to a huge majority of online users who now use them every day for almost everything. The Iran Election was just one of the start-ups that have been greatly influenced by the power of Social Media and we can just imagine what these « social networks » will bring to the future.

At Ressac Media, we thrive on discovering all the possibilities this  new world can bring to us and our clients, and this is just the start of it.

For humanitary causes, I felt the need to post about the contreversial elections currently going on in Iran and feel you should support them too by turning your avatar green and mentionning the #iranelection hash tag in your status. Click here to help.
