Search Engine Market Shares
There has been a lot of (mostly positive) noise around Microsoft’s launch of Bing. Focusing on Bing only, Microsoft’s market share gain within the first six months in 2009 is indeed impressive: 6,02% in June, up from 4,81% at the beginning of 2009, resulting in a whooping 25% gain.
Looking at the bigger picture (see graph) though still leaves Google as the only worldwide superpower in search with a giant 81,22% global market share. In other words, for every single query in Bing, Google counts 13 searches. Imagine the payed ad revenues in the same proportions.
